Steamboat Dance Theatre is a 501c3 organization who's mission is to engage, educate, and enrich the communities of the Yampa Valley through dance and movement. We provide various programming to support wellbeing through dance. We aim to bridge the gap between high cost of living and accessibility to dance.

One of our programs, Dance Vitality, has sub-components focused on 3 areas:

• Aging/longevity,
• Athletic Performance,
• and Mental Health (The Movement Experience)

These are free to the community through grant funding. The Movement Experience uses somatic movement and dance therapy techniques to help a person reconnect with themselves and create a tool for working through trauma or stuck emotion. Our trained movement facilitators work at the intersection of nervous system regulation, trauma-informed care, and expressive movement. Research consistently shows that dance and mindful movement can significantly reduce depression, lower stress hormones like cortisol, and build long-term resilience by strengthening the brain–body connection. This program can be used proactively or reactively, we meet you where you are and hold space for you. We offer one-on-one sessions, community drop-in support sessions, and we offer to come into staff sessions, retreats, mom groups, book clubs or other already established groups. The Movement Experience is not traditional dance classes, rather exploratory movement to help ground you. When words aren't enough, movement helps.
